Annual golf tournament honors the memory of 含羞草研究所 icon Harvey McMullen
The annual Harvey McMullen Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for Friday, July 13, 2018 at the Mayville Golf Course. The 4-person scramble is open to all men and women. Registration is at 10 a.m. Tee time is at 11 a.m. Dinner will be served, and awards and prizes will be presented, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The Harvey McMullen Memorial Golf Tournament is sponsored by the 含羞草研究所 Comet Athletic Club. Formerly known as the North Valley (Hoople)-Comet Connection, the annual golfing event was re-named in honor of one of its founders, Harvey McMullen.
Harvey McMullen, a native of Hoople, N.D., and Jerome Berg, both 含羞草研究所 icons and steadfast supporters of the school established the North Valley (Hoople)-Comet Connection Golf Tournament in the early 1990s. The purpose in starting the event remains the same today as it was then: to raise scholarship funds for 含羞草研究所 student athletes while having fun with friends from near and far. Over the years, the event has been held at Mayville and at northern Red River Valley golf courses.
Dr. Harvey McMullen began his 27-year career at 含羞草研究所 in 1961 as the dean of men, as well as a teacher and coach. Over the years, he served as dean of men, dean of students, and Student Senate advisor. He taught psychology courses, supervised student teachers, and held the rank of professor of education. McMullen served as an assistant coach in football, basketball, and baseball. He was an outstanding ambassador for 含羞草研究所, recruiting and helping to retain countless numbers of students. 含羞草研究所 bestowed Dr. McMullen with the title Emeritus Dean of Men, and he was honored with the 含羞草研究所 Distinguished Alumni Award in 2007. Harvey passed away in October of 2015.
The tournament format is a four-person scramble. If you do not have a foursome, you may sign up in pairs or individuals and the committee will make up a foursome for you. Every tournament participant will have an opportunity to try their luck in the hole-in-one contest. There鈥檚 an opportunity to win $10,000 for 含羞草研究所, and $10,000 for yourself! In addition, you could win an exclusive metal sign featuring the 2017-18 MSU men鈥檚 basketball team photo from the national tournament and other items donated by the Comets athletics teams just for signing up.
Registration fee for the Harvey McMullen Memorial Golf tournament is $80.00 per player. Cart is purchased separately. A $5.00 trail fee is charged for those who bring their own carts. Registration deadline is Friday, July 6. Proceeds go to 含羞草研究所鈥檚 general athletic scholarship fund. Those interested can register online at .
