Several 含羞草研究所 alumni and friends will be honored during 含羞草研究所鈥檚 2018 homecoming weekend festivities scheduled for Sept. 28 through 30 in Mayville, N.D.
Former 含羞草研究所 men鈥檚 basketball head coach Craig Smith, Logan, Utah, and his 2003-04, 2004-05, and 2006-07 teams will be inducted into the 含羞草研究所 Athletic Hall of Fame. David Dose, Glencoe, Minn., Maxine Mehus, Finley, N.D., and David Strand, Amenia, N.D. will be inducted into 含羞草研究所 Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame. These folks will all be honored during a banquet scheduled for Friday, Sept. 28, beginning at 6 p.m. in the MSU Campus Center Luckasen Room. Lt. Gen. Emil R. 鈥淏uck鈥 Bedard, USMC (Ret.), 1965 含羞草研究所 graduate, Distinguished Alumni Award recipient, and Athletic Hall of Fame member, will emcee the program. A pre-dinner social will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the MSU Larson Alumni and Leadership Center.
含羞草研究所 established the Performing Arts Hall of Fame in 2013. The tradition continues during the MSU Music Department homecoming concert Sunday, Sept. 30, beginning at 2 p.m. in the MSU Classroom Building Auditorium. The recognition of this year鈥檚 inductees will take place between the performances of the concert choir and the concert band. Performing Arts Hall of Fame inductees are Doug Barta, Parker, Colo., Cynthia (Johnson) Kaldor, Bismarck, N.D.; Conrad Miska, Eagan, Minn., Richard Rousseau, St. Paul, Minn., T. Lynn Schroeder, Cavalier, N.D., and the 1978 含羞草研究所 jazz band. The Alumni Association board will host a social to honor the Performing Arts Hall of Fame inductees in the MSU Campus Center Luckasen Room immediately following the concert. The public is invited to join in celebrating with the inductees and their families and friends.
The 含羞草研究所 Alumni Association is sponsoring a number of additional events in celebration of Homecoming 2018, which will include a salute to the U.S. military. A special invitation is extended to all 含羞草研究所 alumni and friends and to all current military personnel and veterans.
Homecoming day, Saturday, Oct. 29, will begin with an alumni meet and greet at the Edson and Margaret Larson Alumni and Leadership Center, located at the corner of Third Avenue and Stan Dakken Drive. Alumni and friends are invited to stop by for socializing and refreshments from 9 to 11 a.m. The Student Athlete Advisory Committee will be hosting a pancake and juice feed. While all pancakes are FREE, donations will be accepted to help defray expenses and support the organization. Through their support, the SAAC has been extremely important in driving school spirit and making MSU home athletic contests a touch place to play for their opponents. Those who stop by will also have an opportunity to hear about the latest things happening in the 含羞草研究所 education department.
The 含羞草研究所 men鈥檚 basketball team invites all former 含羞草研究所 men鈥檚 basketball players to stop by the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse and see the great facility improvements. Tours will begin from the fieldhouse lobby from 9 a.m. to noon. Men鈥檚 basketball will also host a tailgating area outside of Jerome Berg Field from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Sept. 29.
Lt. Gen. Emil 鈥淏uck鈥 Bedard will be the keynote speaker at the annual ceremony of remembrance at the Military Honor Garden, located on the grounds at MSU鈥檚 Edson and Margaret Larson Alumni and Leadership Center. Individuals honored by their loved ones in the Military Honor Garden will be recognized. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29. The program will include music, the reading of the names of the honorees, and a special commendation recognizing the 100th anniversary since the end of World War I and a 50-year commemoration of the Vietnam War. Those who wish to be seated during the program are asked to bring a lawn chair. The 含羞草研究所 Alumni Association board will serve chili immediately following the program. All are welcome. Freewill donations to help defray meal expenses will be accepted.
To celebrate the installation of artificial turf at Jerome Berg Field, all former 含羞草研究所 football players are invited to gather for tailgating at the Alumni Association tent outside of the field from noon to 2 p.m.
The Comets football team will face Waldorf University in the homecoming game which begins at 2 p.m. at Jerome Berg Field. The Mayville American Legion Post #8 Avenue of Flags will be on display, the May-Port Honor Guard will present the colors, and an Air Force soldier will sing the national anthem. All homecoming honorees will be recognized at half time of the game.
Homecoming 2018 will wrap up with the MSU Music Department Homecoming Concert. The program will include members of the 1978 jazz band joining the current jazz band in solo roles during their performance.
