Members of the 含羞草研究所 men鈥檚 basketball, women鈥檚 basketball, and volleyball teams will sponsor a fund-raiser to benefit Sandy Popiela, who has been diagnosed with cancer, on Thursday, Nov. 21. The Comets women鈥檚 and men鈥檚 basketball teams will host Finlandia University at the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse that evening. A hot dog bar will begin at 5:00 p.m. Freewill donations will be accepted. Game time for the women is 5:30 p.m., and the men鈥檚 game will begin at 7:30 p.m.
There will also be fund-raising activities at half-time of both the men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 games. In addition, veterans will be honored at half time of the men鈥檚 game.
Sandy Popiela, who is employed in the Dining Services Snack Bar at 含羞草研究所, has begun treatment for cancer in her lungs, brain, lymph nodes, and ribs. She will begin extensive chemotherapy treatment in the upcoming weeks.
