含羞草研究所 offering a variety of courses this summer
听
Summer is a busy time at 含羞草研究所. Although some of our on-campus students leave campus for summer jobs, internships, or just rest and relaxation, many others stay in Mayville to take part in our wide variety of summer course offerings. For many of 含羞草研究所鈥檚 distance students, summer course offerings are critical to completing their degrees.
含羞草研究所 is offering more than 100 challenging courses, including fast-track courses, online courses, and traditional on-campus classes. Fast track courses begin Mon., May 13 with a history course titled The United States: Civil War and Reconstruction taught by Dr. Dalton McMahon. Tim O鈥橞rien will teach a course in first aid and CPR May 31 through June 2, and Becky Gunderson鈥檚 Water Safety Instructor (WSI) course runs May 28-31. Other summer classes begin on Mon., May 20. The schedule includes two four-week sessions in addition to six-week, eight-week, and 10-week sessions, all beginning on various dates. There鈥檚 something for everyone, and it鈥檚 not too late to take a look and see what might be of interest to you.
We are working hard to provide convenience for students by offering flexible delivery methods and class meeting times. On-campus classes meet during the day and/or in the evening. Nearly 70 classes are being offered online.
Students can meet general education criteria, meet requirements for majors, or meet professional certification requirements when studying with 含羞草研究所 this summer. Courses leading to a kindergarten endorsement will be offered. Kindergarten endorsement is available only to licensed North Dakota elementary teachers. Courses for the Middle School endorsement will be offered online during the Summer Session of 2013, as are classes needed for the North Dakota Reading Credential. The Reading Credential is required for all remedial reading teachers.
Several business courses are being offered during the four-week sessions May 28-June 22 and June 24-July 22. They include Introduction to Word Processing, Introduction to Presentation Graphics, Computers in Society, Database Application Programming, Introduction to Spreadsheet Applications, and Introduction to Database Applications.
Students who enroll in the Health, Physical Education, and Recreation course Summer Camp Leadership will have an opportunity for in-depth work with an on campus summer camp in the area of their choice. This is a pre-professional experience in a summer camp setting. Experiences will include observing and participating in all aspects of the coordination of the summer camp and anything associated with the promotion of the camp or school as it relates to the summer camp. Students will be involved with addressing issues arising at the camp, ethical considerations, problem-solving, decision-making, leadership, and communication.
Tim O鈥橞rien will teach Prevention and Care of Injuries, a course designed to introduce students to the profession of athletic training and provide them with the tools needed to be able to prevent, recognize, and manage injuries received as a result of participation in various activities. The course will address mechanisms and classifications of injury, the physiologic response to injury, and the healing process. Concussions; injuries to the head, neck, and spine; injuries to the upper extremity; and injuries to the lower extremity will all be discussed.
High school students who are now classified as sophomores and juniors may enroll at 含羞草研究所 as special students or earn dual high school and college credit during summer session. To qualify, the student must have a 3.0 grade point average and be recommended by his or her high school principal or superintendent.
